Overview
Meta AI for Mac is Meta's first native desktop app for its personal assistant, released in beta in August 2026. Option-Space brings up a compact Quick Invoke composer over whatever you are working on, and a hold-to-talk dictation shortcut types your speech straight into any app, from mail clients to code editors. Grant screen recording and accessibility permissions and you can attach a specific window so the assistant reads what is on screen before answering. Conversations support file attachments, image and video generation, thinking modes, scheduled recurring tasks, and history that syncs with your Meta account. The Dock icon can be hidden for a keyboard-only workflow. Signing in requires a Meta account via Facebook, Messenger, Instagram, or WhatsApp, and Meta uses AI interactions to personalize content and ad recommendations.
Pricing: Free (rate limits on heavier tasks; Meta One subscription for higher allowances)
Minimum macOS: 15.0 (Sequoia)
